EIGHT years after first being refused, a new dementia care home in Ferndown is set for council backing.

Planning officers have recommended that Montpelier Estate’s application for the 73-bed facility in Wimborne Road East is approved when it is considered on Wednesday.

Two previous bids to build a care home on the site were refused but, with the addition of a neighbouring plot of land, a report says the impact of the latest proposal will be less severe.

Montpelier Estate’s application will be considered by members of East Dorset District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

A report to the committee recommends that the three-storey building is given planning permission and says the addition of extra land for the proposal makes it more acceptable than similar proposals which were refused in 2011 and 2009.

“The proposed design is considered to be of a suitable scale for the application site which is larger than that of previous refused applications,” it says.
