FIVE Newcastle United fans are due to appear in court after an alleged pitch invasion on Saturday.
The reported incident happened during the Premier League clash between Bournemouth and Newcastle. Seven football fans – including a 14-old-boy – were arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match. Five of the men were also arrested on suspicion of assault.
The arrests came after winger Matt Ritchie scored a stoppage time equaliser for Newcastle.
It is alleged a female steward sustained an injury to her nose during the reported incident. Police are making enquiries ascertain whether an assault took place.
An 18-year-old man from Newcastle, 29-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, a 31-year-old man from Alnwick, Northumberland and a 40-year-old man from Newcastle have been charged with going onto the playing area at a football match.
They are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 2. The men have been released under investigation in relation to the assault charge.
A 24-year-old man from Andover in Hampshire has also been charged with going onto the playing area at a football match. He will appear before the court on the same day.
A 14-year-old boy from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
An 18-year-old man from Durham who was arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match and assault was released without charge.
