A DISABLED Bournemouth resident faces having a second bid to park outside their home refused.

The applicant wants to create hardstanding outside the block of flats in Russel Road so they can more easily access their vehicle. The applicant is also a carer for her 90-year-old mother.

However borough planning officers have ruled that the scheme "would create a gap within the large open grassed frontage resulting in an uncharacteristic feature", and have recommended refusal.

The bid will be discussed by the planning board after being called in by ward councillor Amedeo Angiolini.

In a statement, Cllr Angiolini says: "In this case, or in any case that involves a disability need, then a balance has to be found that meets the needs of the disabled person.

"In this case the disabled need is for a blue badge holder to have parking access outside of their residents.

"We have to accept that many adaptations to meet disabled needs are not pleasing to the eye, but this is a small price to maintain independence and quality of life."

The board meets on Monday, March 18.
