WORK has begun on a £30,000 six-week project to replace the trot moorings at Christchurch Harbour will be replaced this spring.
Funding has been allocated by Christchurch Borough Council to replace the trot mooring ground chain, which is situated in the south-eastern area of the harbour.
Hampshire-based firm RM Marine Limited were awarded the contract and they are confident the works take six weeks.
No disruption is expected to be caused to water users during the project.
Ben Feeney, Christchurch Borough Council's community and recreation officer, said: “This is great news for harbour users, as it means that these popular moorings will continue to be available.
“The old trot moorings ground chain, which was originally laid in the 1970s, has come to the end of its lifespan. This project will ensure the council’s 63 trot moorings continue to be available for licence holders in the future.
“Previous trot mooring holders will take priority when renewing licences and we hope to reopen applications later this month.”
