A PEDESTRIAN involved in a crash with a motorbike on a busy road has died.

The 55-year-old man from Bournemouth suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash on the A27 Mansbridge Road in Southampton on Thursday, March 7.

The crash took place near the White Swan pub at around 7.40am.

The pedestrian was rushed to Southampton General Hospital but died of his injuries the following day.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a pedestrian involved in a collision in Southampton last week has died.

"Officers were called to a collision involving a motorbike and a pedestrian at 7.41am on Mansbridge Road, on March 7.

"The pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, from Bournemouth, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"He died in hospital on March 8.

"Officers are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision."

The road was closed in both direction following the crash and remained closed for three hours.

Speaking at the time of the incident, a spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We sent an ambulance, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care car to the incident.

"The pedestrian was a 55-year-old male who had sustained serious head injuries and was in a life-threatening condition.

"After initial treatment at the scene he was then taken to University Hospital Southampton."
