THERE were smiles on faces yesterday as events across the area had a flipping good time to mark Shrove Tuesday.

The annual Christchurch Food Festival pancake race saw local businesses speed across the King's Arms Bowling Green.

The racing saw ten teams of four people across the area compete in a relay race.

After a well-spirited event yesterday morning, the team representing Frettens Solicitors took first place.

There was also a contest between chefs from the King's Arms and the Captain's Club, with Ben Nichols, head chef of the King's Arms, claiming the bragging rights.

Cheryl Davies, who is a member of the Christchurch Food Festival organising committee, said: "It was a brilliant and lovely event.

"It is great to see people come out to support the community.

"Last year the event did not take place due to the weather, so it was nice to have good weather this year.

"This is a special year for Christchurch Food Festival as we celebrate its 20th year.

"Preparations are going really well."
