A MAN allegedly had the ingredients for gunpowder at his Wimborne home, a court has heard.
Kevin Yates, 59 and of Hayes Close, was arrested after the Army's bomb disposal team were called to a property in Wimborne last week.
He was later charged with possession of an explosive substance for unlawful purpose and importing, acquiring, possessing or using a regulated substance without a licence.
Last Friday, Yates appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court. He has not yet entered pleas to the charges against him.
However, the court heard potassium nitrate, sulphur and charcoal – which can be used to make chemical explosive gunpowder – as well as a quantity of sulphuric acid, also known as vitriol, were found in his home.
Following the hearing, Yates was remanded into custody ahead a further appearance at the same court this Friday.
Police were called to a concern for welfare at an address in Hayes Close at 3.15am on February 12. Officers claimed chemical substances were found at the address. Firefighters, police and the Army’s bomb disposal team carried out a search of the property.
