RESIDENTS at a care home in north Dorset enjoyed a visit from a special guest – Jasmine the donkey.

As part of a therapeutic activity sessions, Jasmine visited Blandford Grange care home in Milldown Road, Blandford, with her owner where she spent time with residents, many of whom live with dementia.

Jasmine previously worked on Weymouth beach but still enjoys being around people after retiring.

During her visit, she spent time in the communal areas as well as individual bedrooms so that all residents, regardless of ability or mobility, could enjoy meeting and stroking her.

Tilla Wagner, home manager at Blandford Grange, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Jasmine into the home. She is such a gentle and sociable animal and our residents really enjoyed stroking her and chatting to her owner to learn more about her.

“We love bringing animals into Blandford Grange; it’s something many of our residents ask for. The animals bring a whole new atmosphere to the home and many of our residents enjoyed looking after pets for many years before they came here, so it brings back wonderful memories for them.”
