THE weekend and a half-term holiday is just around the corner, here are some events taking place for all ages and budgets.

1 Make your own nature-themed lantern at Kingfisher Barn at Stour Valley Nature Reserve on Saturday between 1pm and 3pm. Costs £2.50 per person and there’s no need to book. Then on Monday, a junior rangers session will see children aged between 11 and 16-years-old take part in practical conservation followed by a campfire lunch. Booking is essential and costs £5 per person.

2 SafeWise Bournemouth on West Howe Industrial Estate is running its popular Junior Safety Inspector Family Tours on Tuesday and Wednesday. The whole family can join in with our practical and hands on activities, such escaping a house fire, calling 999, getting on a train and using road crossings. Entry costs £3 per person plus a booking fee and is free for under fours. The event is aimed at youngsters aged 5 to 11-years-old. Bookings must be made in advance online.

3 Dig out your leather jacket, grease up your quiff and warm up your vocal chords. Wannabe T-Birds and Pink Ladies can sing their hearts out to songs such as Summer Nights and Greased Lightening at a sing-a-long screening of Grease at Lighthouse on Saturday night at 7pm. Then the following day, Queen fans can rock out to the likes of We Will Rock You and Another Ones Bites The Dust at a sing-a-long screening Bohemian Rhapsody at the venue at 3pm.

4 Join a seashore safari and beach clean at Hengistbury Head on Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm. Meet at the visitor centre. Entry costs £2 per person and is free for under 5s.

5 Calling all brides and grooms to be. Poole’s largest wedding exhibition, Wedding Daze, returns to the Lighthouse on Sunday between 11am and 3pm. Visitors will be treated two catwalk shows at 12noon and 2pm plus there will be the chance to talk to up to 60 local wedding suppliers. There will be a free goody bag for every bride, plus exclusive offers and discounts. Entry costs £2 and last admission is at 2.30pm.

6 Drop-in craft activities are taking place at Russell-Cotes between Tuesday and Thursday from 10am until 12.30pm. Entry costs £3 per child.

7 Theatre school Swish of the Curtain presents Shrek The Musical at the BIC between Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets cost £16.

8 Budding young rangers can find out how to conserve nature and learn bush craft skills on Brownsea Island on Wednesday. The event takes place between 11am and 3pm is suitable for children aged eight and over. Costs £20 for children and £7 for adults.

9 Lou Lou's Vintage Fair returns to Bournemouth Pavilion on Sunday. From 10am to 4pm, there will be a host of vintage items on sale from clothes to collectables as well as a tea party and pop-up beauty parlour. Entry costs £2.50 for adults and is free for children under 12.

10 Head to Corfe Castle for medieval family fun during half-term. There will be a castle quest, crafts and puzzles, a teddy bear zip-wire and the chance to watch missiles launch from the castle's medieval siege engine at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 3pm each day.

11 Children can build their own bug hotel at Moors Valley Country Park & Forest on Wednesday. Sessions take place at 10.30am and 2.30pm and booking is essential. Costs £7.50 per child. A torchlight safari will also take place later the same day between 5.45pm and 7.45pm. Costs £6 per person. All events are suitable for children aged six and over.

12 The South West Model Show comes to the Tank Museum this weekend. There will be model boats, cars, planes and trains as well as tanks (of course)
