PLANS for another coffee shop in Christchurch are set to be given the green light.

The proposals to build the Costa Coffee unit in the car park of the Somerford Beefeater and Premier Inn are recommended for approval to Christchurch Borough Council's planning committee on Thursday, February 14.

If approved, the store would provide a counter service as well as a drive through facility between 5.30am and 10.30pm seven days a week, with a loss of 23 car parking spaces.

Cllr David Jones, planning committee chairman, has allowed the scheme to be considered after 18 objections were raised by residents.

Concerns included queues causing delays on the congested Somerford Road and the number of coffee shops already in Christchurch.

However, planning officer Sophie Mawdsley found no reason to refuse the scheme.

A report to the committee says: "Having assessed the material considerations and the economic, social and environmental factors, it can be seen that the factors are either neutral or positive."
