PART of the high street in Blandford was cordoned off after an elderly man suffered a medical episode.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene at around 3.15pm.

The air ambulance was also called.

According to an eyewitness, the man, believed to be in his 80s, was in his car when he suffered the medical episode.

He was pulled out of the vehicle and treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police were directing traffic at the scene during the incident, which happened near the Crown & Anchor pub.

The man was taken to hospital in the air ambulance.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said: "[We] were called at just after 3.10pm to West Street Blandford after it was reported a male patient became unwell. 

"We sent a number of resources to the scene and the patient was flown by air ambulance to hospital for further treatment."
