POLICE are hunting a man who tried to entice a 10-year-old boy into a van near a Bournemouth school.

Officers were alerted after the boy was approached near Kingsleigh Primary as he walked to meet his mum at the end of the school day.

Now a warning has been issued following the incident, which took place at around 3.30pm in Bennion Road on Tuesday, February 5.

Headteacher of the Hadow Road school Richard Gower has met with the parents of the boy concerned and has also spoken to pupils about the incident.

Parents were also made aware of what had happened on Tuesday evening.

Mr Gower said the boy, a Year 6 pupil, refused to get into the van and ran to meet his mum.

“Since then I have spoken to pupils in all year groups about stranger danger,” he said.

“We advise them what to do and what to say if someone approaches them.

“We do fairly regular reminders to the children about this sort of thing – it is common in schools these days.”

Mr Gower said he intended to discuss the incident with police before deciding on whether further action should be taken.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 3.57pm on Tuesday February 5 to reports that a man driving a van approached a 10-year-old boy as he walked along Bennion Road in Bournemouth to meet his family.

“It is reported the man asked the boy to get into his van at around 3.30pm but the boy refused.”

The spokesman said investigating officers were due to meet with the boy and his parents yesterday to establish full details of what had taken place.
