A MAN who drove at almost 40 miles per hour over the speed limit was one of five people convicted of speeding offences last week.

The five appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court. One was banned from the roads for six months for persistent offending.

Another man was due to appear before magistrates yesterday charged with speeding. Prosecutors allege he was riding a motorbike at 120mph on a dual carriageway.

Dorset Police list speeding as one of the 'fatal five', a list of actions a driver can take that make a collision more likely.

Traffic officers say 98 per cent of collisions are caused by human error, with just two per cent caused by unavoidable issues such as mechanical failure.

The fatal five are driving at excess or inappropriate speed; failing to wear a seatbelt; using a mobile phone; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and careless or inconsiderate driving.
