I WAS delighted to read in the Echo (Monday 28 January, 'Creative Coast' Bid) of the launch of the Cultural Enquiry, which aims to develop a long-term vision for the arts in the area.

Members of Bournemouth Male Voice Choir (BMVC), too, would like to subscribe to that vision being put forward of becoming known as 'England's creative coastline'.

We are passionate about promoting a more modern and sustainable image for men's choirs and about encouraging contemporary composers of this music genre.

We are hosting an event on 27 April at the Lighthouse Concert Hall, when 10 choirs from England and Wales have agreed to compete for cash prizes. We have asked that those choirs consider using works by contemporary composers for their auditions.

The three top choirs will perform their own sets along with BMVC at a Gala Charity Concert that evening in aid of the Bournemouth Hospital Charity, supporting diagnosis and treatment of men's prostate and urological conditions at RBH.

All eleven choirs, nearly 400 men's voices, will join in an inspiring finale, that we hope will sustain and revive interest in men's choirs. This is our contribution to establishing BCP as 'England's Creative Coastline'.

You can obtain further information or support and help sponsor the event by emailing enquiries@bournemouthmalechoir.co.uk

Tickets are available at the Lighthouse Box Office on 01202 280000 or via www.lighthousepoole.co.uk
