Name: Cally Stephens

Years behind the lens: I’ve always had a passion for photography, finally invested in a “proper” camera and enrolled on a Yeovil college evening photography course in 2016.

Current Camera: Nikon D3300.

Dream camera: Unsure, I like the idea of trying a mirrorless camera but believe it’s what’s in your head and heart that results in a good picture.

Piece of equipment you couldn’t be without: Internet for research & planning helps me a lot.

Favourite Dorset location: Would have to choose West Bay, we are very lucky to have the Jurassic coast close to home.

Dream location: Photographing the Aurora would be amazing. I would love to do more Astrophotography, still remember the buzz of capturing the moon successfully for the first time.

Worst photographic mishap: Thankfully nothing to date springs to mind.

Best photographic success: Overall winner of National Garden Scheme 2018 photography competition with ‘Leaf Spirit’ sculpture by Simon Gudgeon taken at Sculpture by the Lakes.

Top tip: Enjoy your subject and take photos for you, if others enjoy your pictures it’s a bonus.

What you’ve gained/learnt from or liked about Echo Camera Club Dorset: The group has helped me to discover some “secret” gem locations in Dorset and it’s a great online community for advice.
