NEW digital advertising screens, giving real-time updates on blood donation appointments, has gone live in Poole.

Poole's blood donor centre is at the town's Dolphin Shopping Centre, and the screens – dotted around the town centre – will show statistics and real-life images of people whose lives were saved through blood donation.

The screens are part of a drive by NHS Blood to recruit more donors in Poole.

Currently, just 3.4 per cent of people aged 17-34 regularly donate blood within the town. Most donors are aged over 45.

NHS Blood and Transplant needs around 900 new blood donors of all ages over the year.

Mike Stedder, director of blood donations for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "Many young people walk through the town centre every day but don’t realise how easy and simple it is to start giving blood in Poole.

"Registering to donate online only takes a few minutes.

"We aim to have you in and out within an hour but the actual donation itself should take five to ten minutes - then it is time for free drinks and biscuits."

Download the mobile GiveBlood app, go online at blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 to book an appointment.
