PROPOSALS have been revealed for a new bar in Christchurch town centre.

Tom’s Bars have provided mobile hospitality services in Dorset and Hampshire since 2014.

However, now managing director and founder Tom Owen wants to open a permanent venue in the heart of the town.

Plans have been submitted to change the use of the Church Street premises which currently trades as clothes store Roberta.

Mr Owen, who lives in Christchurch with his wife and baby daughter, said it was his dream to open a bar in the town where he has spent more than 20 years of his life.

He has worked in hospitality for more than 10 years but said this was the next step for the business.

“I have always wanted to open this kind of bar in this town,” Mr Owen said.

“I am quite confident because the Christchurch Town Centre Vision says the council are seeking to increase A4 (drinking establishment) premises to increase the vitality of the town in an area where retail is becoming especially more challenging and this includes Church Street.

“We are still in the early stages with the designs but our bar will be offering interiors with personality and charm, with a welcoming high-end service.

“I hope Tom’s can become a choice destination for prospective clients across the south coast.”

Mr Owen said the venue will offer “sophisticated” food and drink options throughout the day and evening.

He added: “Everything I have done up to now in business has been a stepping stone towards opening my own bar.”
