A MAN suffered "significant injuries" in a crash in rural North Dorset on Saturday night.

The casualty was hurt in a single-vehicle collision in Tiley Knap, Middlemarsh at around 7.40pm.

Police say he was in a silver Peugeot Boxer panel van which left the road.

Detectives investigating the collision closed the road for more than ten hours to gather evidence.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Officers were called by the ambulance service just after 7.40pm to a single-vehicle road traffic collision.

"Road closures were put in place.

"A vehicle had left the carriageway and a person was trapped.

"Fire crews assisted in freeing the casualty from the vehicle.

"The casualty suffered significant injuries and was taken to hospital."

Police have thanked members of the public for their patience while the road closures were in place.

The van involved is registered to a Dorset company.
