CONDOLENCES have been offered to the family of a young man who died in a crash in Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist, named locally as Khan May, was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van in Holdenhurst Road.

His green Triumph motorcycle was in “close proximity” to a police vehicle prior to the crash, and Dorset Police now faces an investigation as a result.

A spokesperson said the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct but could not provide any further details.

Flowers were left at the scene following the crash, which happened near the junction with Windham Road at around 6pm.

People, including members of the biker community, were also expressing their condolences on social media, with many saying ‘RIP Khan’ and sending their thoughts to his friends and family.

It is understood Mr May had two children.

His family are being supported by specially trained officers, according to Dorset Police.

An appeal for witnesses was issued following Tuesday’s incident.

Anyone who saw the crash or the manner of driving of either vehicle beforehand is asked to contact police. Anyone with relevant dashcam footage is also urged to get in touch.

A large number of police and ambulance vehicles were called to the scene, and the road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The driver of the van, a 27-year-old man from Bournemouth, was not injured.

Police Inspector Joe Pardey, of Dorset Police’s traffic unit, said: “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time.”

He added: “I would like to thank motorists for their patience during the road closure, which is necessary to enable officers to investigate the scene thoroughly.”
