A WOMAN says she 'hasn't slept for six weeks' after a housing association installed a halogen light outside her Kinson home.

Carol Thomas, who works as a cleaner at a school and a doctors' surgery, told the Daily Echo her mental health has been compromised by the light.

Maintenance workers put the bright bulb into a street lamp in Keeble Crescent on December 6 last year.

Mrs Thomas claimed the light has been improperly installed. Instead of shining onto the street, it beams through the curtains and keeps her awake, she said.

"I haven't slept at all since it went in," she said.

"The bolt's on a tilt, so it beams in directly through my bedroom window.

"It's really starting to affect me mentally.

"I initially called the council to complain, but they say it's up to my housing association, so I'm being passed around from pillar to post."

The street lamp has been without a bulb for several years, she said.

"They've gone and put in a really bright halogen bulb," she said.

"My husband can sleep through it, but I just can't. It's really getting me down now.

"I drive a lot and I need to function for work.

"The light hasn't worked for years, but now the situation is even worse."

Several organisations - including BCHA, Spectrum, Bournemouth council and Knightstone - are involved in the management of Keeble Crescent. Despite a number of calls and emails, it remains unclear who is responsible for the maintenance of the street lights.
