THANKS to Looking Back reader Steph Way for getting in touch with these pages.

After seeing our appeal for information on the items found in the Wyke Smugglers pub, she was wondering if readers might know anything about these very old posters, which were passed on to her.

The first publicises a 'Smoking Concert' to be held at The Running Horse, King Street, Weymouth, on Saturday, August 2, 1890, starting at 8.30pm. The sign says 'the proceeds will be given to Mr. Peter Box'. Admission was threepence.

The next poster publicises a draw for a four and a half gallon cask of ale, again for the benefit of Mr. Peter Box, taking place again at The Running Horse in King Street, Weymouth on Saturday, July 26, 1890, at 8.30pm. Tickets cost threepence for this draw.

Stephanie said: "I was given these a few years ago but know nothing about either the Running Horse or who Peter Box was!"

Anyone with any information on Peter Box or the Running Horse, which was presumably a pub, should get in touch with Looking Back by calling 01305 830973 or emailing joanna.davis@dorsetecho.co.uk
