REGARDING the letter 'Not sacred cows' (Daily Echo, January 8) and in reply to Mr Smith, Echo letter writers and commentators have had decades of unfettered car access which has resulted in the congestion experienced on our roads every day.

Progressive cities now have designed out their sole occupant car journeys which cause these queues.

Put simply we need to move people not cars.

Using public transport, cycling and walking short journeys is the solution.

You can move 70 people in 20 seconds over a section of four-metre wide cycle path like the one going in on Wallisdown Road - that is 12,600 people an hour, or in a car lane 2,400 people an hour.

British towns are just beginning this process of kick-starting active travel. Join in, think outside your box.
