CAMPAIGNERS were jumping for joy after learning Hamworthy's popular paddling pool will be renovated after all.

Last week the Friends of Hamworthy Park (FoHP) issued an urgent appeal for £83,600, which, they understood at that time, needed to be met in full by Monday.

But after reading the story in the Daily Echo, Borough of Poole leader Cllr Janet Walton contacted us to set the record straight.

According to Cllr Walton a miscommunication had led FoHP to believe their project was in jeopardy.

She then confirmed the funding shortfall would be met in full by BOP, and that the pool renovation was set to start in February.

Yesterday, as FoHP members and campaigners gathered at the pool, FoHP treasurer Stan Chatterton said: "This is great news, but the big celebration will be when this pool is finished and the children are enjoying themselves."

The paddling pool, which is free to use, was opened in 1931.

Residents and park visitors say it is one of the most popular attractions in the local area, but it is in urgent need of renovation.
