A LORRY driver will be sentenced today over the death of two people in a serious crash on the M3.

John William Rogers, 65, was convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after an Audi Q7 was crushed between two lorries on June 5 2017.

Grandfather Michael James, who was 77 and of Birkdale Court in Broadstone, and Susan Curtis, who was 67 and of Malvern Road in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, both died in the collision, which happened on the northbound M3 between junction 9 at Winnall and junction 10 for Winchester.

Rogers was behind the wheel of a DAF XF articulated lorry which collided with the rear of Mr James’s Audi.

The Audi then hit the rear of a Renault lorry, which collided with another lorry in front.

Both Mr James and Mrs Curtis died at the scene.

Rogers was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance after the crash.

He had been living in Alicante, Spain, at the time of the incident but is now believed to be living in Aberdare, Mid Glamorgan, Wales.

Mr James' family said he would be "terribly missed" in a statement released by police after his death.
