TWO weeks into his job, the first chief executive of the new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) council has praised ongoing work to established the new unitary authority.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the BCP shadow executive committee, Graham Farrant, said that he had seen “strong” management of work required ahead of its formation in April.

The former chief executive of HM Land Registry, Mr Farrant was appointed to the new council’s £180,000-a-year top job in November and started at the beginning of the month.

He is now responsible for overseeing the remaining transition work into the new unitary authority, which will be the 12th-biggest local authority in the country.

Providing an update on work to the conurbation’s most senior councillors on Tuesday, Mr Farrant said he had been “very impressed” with the management of the process.

“Our programme management is strong and I think that’s really going to pay dividends,” he said.

“I have seen very good evidence of members collaborating across the three councils and it’s been making very good progress.”

The new council is due to be established on April 1.
