A BURGLAR caught on a video doorbell camera has been sentenced after he was identified in a police CCTV appeal.

Images of Yomi Simeon Davies, 37, of Compton Avenue in Poole were circulated after a Bournemouth householder received an alert on his phone indicating that someone was near his front door.

Davies appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday January 10 and admitted an offence of burglary.

He was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, with a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a requirement to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

Davies was also ordered to pay compensation of £150 and a victim surcharge of £140.

At around 9.40pm on Thursday August 30 the victim, a man aged in his 60s who was away from his Glenferness Avenue, Talbot Woods home, received a notification on his phone from his door bell CCTV system.

The CCTV showed a man approach the front door and attempt to force it open with a tool. He was unable to gain entry and walked around to the rear of the property.

Around 10 minutes later the house alarm was activated and police were called to the address.

It was discovered that a first floor window had been broken but the offender had left the premises.

Police reported that a silver vehicle was seen making off from the scene at speed.

The victim subsequently attended and confirmed that nothing had been stolen from his property..

Officers issued a public appeal with images from the CCTV and received two responses identifying Davies as the offender.

He was arrested in Poole on Monday October 29.

Detective Constable Michelle Lawrence, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We recognise the distressing impact of being the victim of a burglary and we are determined to identify offenders such as Davies and bring them before the court.

“It is fortunate that in this case the victim had security measures in place that alerted the police, disturbed the offender and enabled us to identify the man responsible.

“I would like to thank the members of the public who responded to the appeal to help us bring Davies to justice.”
