THOUSANDS of people are taking part in Veganuary this month. If you’re one of them, or you’re a full-time vegan, here’s a guide to Bournemouth’s vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants.

Café Thrive

Cafe Thrive on Richmond Hill, which has a sister restaurant in Southampton, may have only opened its doors in November but it's already proving popular. Diners can enjoy brunch, lunch and dinner as well as a host of delicious treats including homemade cakes to take away.

Offerings include a breakfast muffin which is served all day featuring tofu ‘egg’, meat-free sausage and dairy free cheese, a Mediterranean cashew ‘cheese’ sandwich, jackfruit ‘fish’ and chips, plus burgers and salad bowls. Don’t forget space for pudding, as there's ‘ice cream’ sundaes, waffles and brownie bowls on offer.

Mad Cucumber

Situated in The Triangle, Mad Cucumber promises to make all its dishes by hand using mainly local, seasonal and organic ingredients.

Open six days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner (apart from Mondays when it opens at 12pm), visitors can tuck into dishes such as a breakfast burrito with refried veggie mash and avocado, a vegan breakfast with polenta, spinach, mushrooms, vegan sausage and beans, mushroom stroganoff, three bean chilli or curry. There’s also a daily specials menu, too, plus a range of cakes and other treats to satisfy your sweet-tooth.

Twelve Eatery

This organic plant-based restaurant, juice and cocktail bar opened in a former chicken shop in The Triangle in November. Owners Dalton Mello and Greg Rush, who both worked in restaurants in London, spent more than 12 months bringing the eatery to Bournemouth which takes plant-based dining to another level.

Have you tried the Feijoada @twelveeatery yet? . #Feijoada is a Brazilian national dish which will warm you inside out! 😌 This black bean stew takes 14 hours to cook and is full of goodness with 7 types of mushrooms, carrots, pulled jackfruit #jaca and the best seitan sausages ever! #yumyum 😋 . We serve our organic version with steamed rice, fresh oranges, crispy kale and biquinho chillies (sweet and fragrant peppers directly from Brazil). Oh, of course we wouldn’t miss a side of tomato salsa and #farofa (toasted cassava flour) to go with it as tradition. Come in and get cozy this weekend! 🤗 . . With a weather like this please also don’t forget the ones in need out there. 🙏 Have a great weekend and be kind to one another 😊 . . #veganfeijoada #feijoadatop #feijoadacompleta #feijoadavegana #feijoadalight #pimentabiquinho #biquinhopepper #crispykale #seitan #linguicavegana #vegansausage #jackfruit #pulledjackfruit #brazilianfood #comidabrasileira #blackbeans #beanstew #stew

Urban Reef and Urban Beach

Boscombe's Urban Reef and Urban Beach restaurants are offering a host of 'plant-powered' dishes to see people through January. Diners just have to look for the PP symbol on the menu.

Dishes include a mango and black bean wrap, a burger made using brown rice, quinoa, mushroom, black beans and oats, a pumpkin and tofu curry and a fig and apricot gooey oat slice served warm with Purbeck lemon jazz sorbet. There's even a vegan-friendly sharing plate featuring fennel marinated carrots, candy beetroot, hazelnut hummus, pickled mushrooms, marinated olives & roasted red peppers, scrambled tofu, spiced chickpeas and sourdough (phew).
