BRRR-ace yourselves. Temperatures are set to plunge in Dorset over the next few days – and snow could even be on the cards next week.

Today will be cold with it feeling no warmer than 1C and by Tuesday it won’t be get above freezing all day.

Twitter-based weather forecaster Dorset Snow, who has been tracking the cold weather system for the past 10 days, said rain could become snow on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

He said: “A band of rain, sleet and snow may move in from the west and hit the cold air over the UK. This could give a dusting in areas and could be subject to change as some models have been forecasting easterly winds by then which would keep the system at bay.”

He said there was lots of uncertainty and a return of the Beast from the East that took hold last March remained a "small possibility" into the end of January.

Temperatures are expected to remain cold into February.

The Met Office has warned that between the end of January and middle of February, there would be cold and sometimes very cold weather with widespread overnight frosts with the potential for snow “anywhere”.

A spokesperson said: “Snow will mainly affect higher ground in the north, but there will be a higher risk than usual of snow at lower levels, even in the south. The details of any disruptive snow remains uncertain.”
