A WILDE time will be had on Wednesdays in Lyme.
Starting on Wednesday, January 23, there will be regular screenings of Oscar Wilde plays which were performed in London’s West End at the Vaudeville Theatre.
The season starts with A Woman Of No Importance in which an earnest young American woman, a louche English lord and an innocent young chap join a house party of fin de siècle fools and grotesques. First performed in 1893, Oscar Wilde’s marriage of wit and drama satirised the world of the Victorian upper class, creating a vivid new theatrical voice which still resonates today.
Directed by Kathy Burke and starring Jennifer Saunders, the series continues with Lady Windermere’s Fan on February 24.
March sees the return of Oscar Wilde’s hugely popular masterpiece An Ideal Husband. It stars Olivier Award-nominated Frances Barber (Silk), and Susan Hampshire (Forsyte Saga, Monarch of the Glen).
