A MAN has been arrested after two gas mains were damaged in a crash in Verwood last night, sparking a huge blaze.

The collision happened in Ringwood Road near the junction with Lake Road at around 8.30pm.
Residents reported hearing a series of "explosions" in the moments after the crash, with fire crews warning members of the public to stay away.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
Residents are being advised to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed.

Homeowners living in four properties near the scene of the crash were evacuated.
Those living near the site of the collision said there was a strong smell of gas.
A spokesperson from Dorset Police said on Friday night: "Residents are being advised to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors closed."

The car left Ringwood Road at the junction of Noon Hill Road before finally stopping in the driveway of an address, where it caught fire.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 8.26pm.
Crews from Verwood, Ringwood, Cranborne, Salisbury. Springbourne, Poole and Wimborne attended.
Fire crews from Springbourne and Poole remained on standby into the early hours.

A stop message was received at 7.29am.
All appliances have now left the scene and the incident has been left with SGN to carry out repairs.
Ringwood Road remained closed for most of the morning at the junctions of Black Hill and Woodlinken Drive.
