SMASH-HIT prequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was the most watched film at the Regent Centre in 2018.

A total of 12,041 ABBA fans turned out to watch screenings at the venue last year.

The Regent Centre also hosted a special sing-a-long version and Mamma Mia! Spectacular in August which included a live ABBA tribute band, a showing of the film and a fancy-dress competition for would-be super troupers and dancing queens.

The musical comedy, which stars Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Cher, was released last July.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is now second place in the list of the most popular films ever to be shown at the Regent Centre.

It follows its 2008 predecessor Mamma Mia! which saw 12,521 people watch the movie at the Regent.

Other popular films shown at the Regent in 2018 included The Darkest Hour, The Greatest Showman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Peter Rabbit and Finding Your Feet.

A Star is Born, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society, The Post and The Incredibles 2 also had filmgoers flocking.

Gary Theobald, film programmer at the Regent Centre, said: “2018 has been a fantastic year for film at the Regent but 2019 is already off to a flying start with Mary Poppins Returns, The Favourite and Stan & Ollie already heading up a star-studded line-up in January and February.”
