POPULAR TV drama shows such as Killing Eve, Bodyguard and Luther are expected to have a major influence on what we call our pets this year, it's been claimed.

According to name tag and label manufacturer, My Nametags, Eve is predicted to be the most popular name for female pets after the spy thriller featuring Sandra Oh.

In a list of the top 10 female pet names, Jodie takes the number three spot after actors Jodie Comer, of Killing Eve, and Jodie Whittaker, star of Doctor Who.

Other popular names include Meghan, after the Duchess of Sussex, Charm, featured in David Attenborough’s series Dynasties, Stormi, Rey and even Sansa after character Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Margot and Charlotte also appear along with Tease, the whippet who was crowned Best in Show at Crufts 2018.

While Bud is leading the way in the top 10 of male pet names, which is inspired by leading character David Budd from hit BBC show the Bodyguard played by Richard Madden.

My Nametags said it has seen a 26 per cent increase in orders for name tags featuring the name Idris after Luther star Idris Elba with the name coming in a close second place.

While Jackson, the name as Bradley Cooper’s character in A Star is Born, has also apparently seen a 10 per cent rise in popularity over the past year along with the name Peter made popular last year by animated children's film Peter Rabbit.

Newt, the name of Eddie Redmayne’s character in Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts, Eddie - after Tom Hardy’s character in Venom - and Freddie after Queen singer Freddie Mercury are also in the list of top 10 male pet names.

Lars B. Andersen, managing director of My Nametags, said: “We have put together our list of 2019 pet predictions based on the names that we have seen rising in popularity throughout the year and we hope it will act as inspiration for those naming their furry friends in the year ahead.”
