THOSE planning to embark on a new career are being urged to attend the Bournemouth and Poole College New Year, Fresh Start event.

The event is being held at the college's Poole site in North Road on Thursday January 10 from 3.30pm until 6.30pm.

Free to attend, it will offer access to expert advice and the opportunity to find out more information about the range of courses available for candidates to enrol onto in the New Year.

Louise Garner, director of learning applied science, care and foundation learning, added: “January can be the perfect time to learn a new skill and progress in your career. Many adults have busy lives and this can put them off doing a course that could really boost their CV.

"At Bournemouth and Poole College we offer a flexible approach to learning and part-time courses that can fit around a demanding schedule.”

The college will also be taking applications for apprenticeships, part-time courses and one full-time course, starting between January and April 2019, on the evening during the event.

Among those who have studied at the college recently are Jacqueline Gower who took a level 5 diploma in leadership after working for 25 years in the care sector.

She said: "I wanted a qualification that would aid my personal development in my role as a care team leader. There was a good mix of classroom learning and the support from the tutors at the college was outstanding. I really feel that I’ve gained both personally and professionally by doing the course."

Penny Ward gained a level 2 certificate in supporting teaching and learning after deciding she wanted to work with young people.

"I wanted to work with young people, but I didn’t have the right qualifications, so I enrolled onto a course at the college" she said.

"I found it really interesting and received lots of support, guidance and reassurance. I was even offered a job while on the course. It has given me so much confidence and I have gone from strength to strength."
