PEOPLE living in Bournemouth, Poole and parts of east Dorset will now be unable to have their real Christmas tree collected for disposal with the charity offering the service being fully booked.

In recent years, Dorset councils have stopped collecting old trees from homes with residents told to take them to recycling centres.

Charity Diverse Abilities has organised to pick up and dispose in their stead but has now reached ‘full capacity’ for the year and is no longer accepting any new bookings.

A spokesman for Bournemouth council said that the only option for its residents was to take their tree to Millhams tip.

Meanwhile, people in Poole can use the Nuffield recycling centre or take their tree to Upton Country Park until January 6 to dispose of it.

Dorset Waste Partnership, which covers the rest of the county, has urged residents to dispose of Christmas trees at recycling centres or in garden waste bins.
