DORSET residents will be asked for their views on being asked to pay an additional £2 a month to fund policing during a county-wide roadshow.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has launched a consultation asking members of the public for their views on the proposed increase.

The roadshow will visit Poole’s Dolphin Shopping Centre at 3pm on January 7, Asda at St Pauls Road in Bournemouth at 12pm on January 8, Blandford Tesco at 9am on January 10, Sherborne’s Waitrose store at 10am on January 11 and Gillingham Waitrose at 1pm on January 11.

The following week, it will call at Waitrose in Christchurch at 11am on January 16, Tesco in Ferndown at 12pm on January 17, Wimborne’s Waitrose store at 3pm on January 17, Co-op in Swanage at 10am on January 18 and Sainsbury’s in Wareham at 1pm the same day.

The increase has been suggested after the government placed the responsibility for the majority of the 2019/20 settlement with Police and Crime Commissioners.

Police and Crime Commissioners can increase their precept up to a maximum of £24 each year, based on a Band D property.
