BOURNEMOUTH’S new community lottery is set to launch next month.

Tickets for Bournemouth Borough Council's BH Coastal Lottery will be available to buy online from Tuesday, January 29.

People who enter will have the chance to win prizes of up to £25,000 and it’s claimed that every ticket has a one in 50 chance of winning a prize.

Players will choose six numbers and each number will be between zero and nine.

A draw will take place every Saturday night when the winning six-digit combination will be selected.

Players who match the six numbers will win the £25,000 jackpot while those with five numbers will win £2,000.

Anyone who matches four numbers will win £250 while those with three numbers will win £25. People who match two numbers will win three extra tickets.

All winners will be notified by email and the winning numbers will also be published on the BH Coastal Lottery website and social media pages.

Tickets will cost from £1 each week and 60p from every ticket sold will go towards good causes in Bournemouth.

According to the BH Coastal Lottery website, players will also be given the chance to decide which good cause 50p should go towards with the remaining 10 pence distributed to other good causes.

Bournemouth council said the remaining 40p will be put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Councillor Jane Kelly, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We are really excited about the BH Coastal Lottery and how it will benefit local causes. We are initiating the lottery as we recognise that as pressures on budgets continue to increase, we need to support our local charitable and voluntary groups.

“All good causes supported by the lottery will benefit Bournemouth and its residents. This is also a good opportunity for our local causes to raise their profile, attracting new supporters.”

Local charities and voluntary organisations who are interested in benefitting from the scheme are being invited to sign up for free and they will be able to set up their own lottery page and keep 50 per cent of ticket sales from their page.
