A PROLIFIC shoplifter has appeared before the courts yet again.

Marcus Downes, of Suffolk Road in Bournemouth, holds a long string of convictions for thefts from shops.

On Monday, he admitted more offences at Poole Magistrates' Court.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to five new thefts, including stealing a rucksack from a Dorchester South Railway Station and a chainsaw worth £179.99 from Homebase.

He also admitted two counts of failing to comply with the requirements of existing community orders by ignoring his curfew for 12 hours and missing two meetings.

The orders were made for a total of 15 thefts, one count of failing to surrender and one of attempted theft.

Magistrates sentenced Downes to a new community order, under which he must comply with a four-week electronically-monitored curfew and carry out 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation.
