A BUSY road in Poole will remain closed both ways until "further notice" due to a gas leak.
The A350 Poole Road was shut from 8pm on Thursday night so SGN could carry out emergency repairs.
The road is closed between Crumpets Drive and Castle Farm Road and will affect traffic both ways between Sturminster Marshall at the Roundhouse Roundabout and the A350/A35 at Upton.
A diversion is in place via Bere Regis on the A31 and A35.
Intially, it was hoped the road would have been reopened by Friday lunchtime.
However, by Friday morning SGN had said the leak is "severe" and the road was expected to remain closed for most if not all of the weekend.
Bradley Barlow, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said: "We’re carrying out an emergency repair to our gas network in the A350 Poole Road.
"The A350 Poole Road has been closed by the Borough of Poole while they investigate a partial road collapse. Our engineers are currently investigating reports of a smell of gas and will look to repair our gas network.
"We have been advised by the Borough of Poole that the A350 Poole Road will remain closed until further notice."
More information is expected to be given on Monday if the incident continues.
