A MAN who decided to walk from Bournemouth to St Leonards along the A338 was picked up by police on Friday night.

Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuse team stopped for the man after he was seen attempting to walk the twelve-and-a-half miles between the town and his home.

The PCs took him to a safer area and gave him "strong words of advice" before letting him continue his journey.

It came during a busy night for the team in Boscombe and Bournemouth.

Seven vehicles were stopped for various offences.

One driver was pulled over as his vehicle had no lights on. Police allege that he quickly admitted having a drink on his way home from work and was reportedly twice the legal limit.

A second motorist stopped in St Clement's Road, Boscombe failed a roadside test for cannabis and was arrested.

Shortly afterwards, police seized a car in Castle Lane West as the driver's licence had been revoked by the DVLA.

In the same stretch of road, two motorbikes without number plates or lights were stopped at around 9pm.

Officers said the riders only had "daytime MOTs" and said they had gone out "as they were bored".

Neither of the bikes had L-plates displayed, while both allegedly had illegal number plates.

A driver for a local takeaway was stopped in Poole for driving at speed. His insurance policy did not cover business use and he was given six points and a £300 fine.
