AFC Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn is asking people to text a fiver to help a Dorset family going through cancer this Christmas.
Jeff, who is a patron of Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF), said: “We’re all getting into Christmas mode and preparing to spend money on presents for those we love, but there are lots of families here in Dorset which are facing Christmas under the shadow of cancer.
“This causes huge strains on families, both emotionally and financially. So we are asking people to support our High Five campaign and donate a fiver by texting: DCCF00 £5 to 70070.”
DCCF was set up by local people in Poole five years ago and fundraises to give grants to help people pay for everything from household bills when they cannot work, to childcare, transport costs to and from hospital and much needed short breaks.
The High Five campaign was launched in October and will run until November 2019, aiming to raise £250,000 which will immediately fund DCCF grants.
Jeff is a DCCF Patron alongside Harry Redknapp and was joined in his appeal by DCCF trustee Meryl Ponsford.
He added: “By giving to the High Five campaign people can be sure that every penny will be used to buy festive food, gifts and treats for local families who need it.
“In this season of goodwill you are providing a gift for someone you don’t necessarily know, but whom could easily be living in your town, or even your street.”
