BUDDING young artists are being urged to get creative for their local community.

The Priest's House Museum Trust is calling on graphic designers, illustrators, painters, sculptors, poets, writers and photographers to sum up their place with, or their vision of, their local community and heritage.

The project, which will be launched at the museum on Friday, December 14, aims to develop artwork to display on hoardings while the building, in the centre of Wimborne, is refurbished, with site boards being produced to show the chosen pieces, with information about each winner.

In addition, the original pieces of work will form a touring exhibition that will be placed in key areas of the district, and will be kept into the museum's contemporary life collection for prosperity, to enable future generations to understand how people lived in the 21st century.

The museum has recently been awarded £982,200 National Lottery funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a major re-development of the museum incorporating the East Dorset Information Centre.

This competition is a partnership with the Chairman of East Dorset District Council, Cllr Toni Coombs, and Castle Cameras in conjunction with Sony Imaging, who have donated two cameras as part of the prize package.

To take part, download an application form from priest-house.co.uk from Tuesday, December 18 or call 01202 882533. The closing date is 4pm on Friday 22 February 2019.
