When it comes to soaring talent and swashbuckling fun, this show has it in spades. A refreshing production that is not only perfect for parents, but is a flying introduction to the power of musical theatre for youngsters in the audience.

At the heart of things were the hugely talented young, amateur cast that delivered their lines with passion, flair and above all professionalism. The show boasts three different line-ups of 135 local performers, which alternate over the five-day run at the Regent Centre.

Tonight saw leading performances from Oliver Payne as the irrepressible Peter Pan, Ruby Douglass as a fantastically mischievous Tinker Bell and Dan Northbrooke with a modern take on Captain Hook that gave him a terrific edge.

In fact, this revamped version managed to feel fresh and contemporary, while still retaining the magic of JM Barrie’s original play and the feel-good factor of Disney’s animated film. The production aims high, looks a treat and offers plenty of thrills along the way.

The cast are clearly enjoying the experience as much as the audience, which is a joy to behold. All with the support off-stage from Broadway and West End star Earl Carpenter and his local theatre company, Ginger Boy Productions.

Running at a zippy 60 minutes, Disney Peter Pan Jnr. doesn’t out stay its welcome and is the perfect tonic to some of the more over-indulgent panto productions. By final curtain, the positivity and sheer good humour of the show carried the audience home to Neverland.

Disney Peter Pan Jnr. continues at the Regent Centre until December 15.
