ROADWORKS on Matchams Lane are expected to be completed two days before Christmas.

SSE started work on Sunday after the A338 lane restrictions were removed.

The company is stabilising the electricity network and provide a connection.

According to Dorset County Council, SSE had requested to carry out the work in October.

Temporary lights are in use while the work takes place.

Further works by SSE will need to be undertaken in January to pull the cable through, however this can be done off the carriageway and without any traffic management on Matchams Lane.

Meanwhile, work took place last week to start to install flashing horse warning signs on the Avon Causeway to facilitate horses crossing the bridge.

A county council spokesperson said: "This was carried out at night with two-way temporary lights in place. Our work involved clearing topsoil from the verge, building a gravel path along the road, and installing ducting and duct boxes for the flashing horse warning signs. The signs will be installed at a later date.

"Due to the wet weather last week, we were unable to complete some day time work to pour concrete. This daytime work is now being undertaken next week using Stop & Go boards outside of peak travel times."

Further work will be required in the future to install the signs, but is not yet programmed.
