One of North Wales’ most historic parks is set to get a new dairy built on its land.

Kinmel Home Farm Partnership has submitted plans for the facility, with a capacity to milk 500 cows, at Kinmel Hall.

Applicants, Kinmel Home Farm Partnership, want to build a dairy building and associated collecting yard on land at Kinmel Park.

The park contains the Grade I listed Kinmel Hall as well as three Grade II listed buildings.

The dairy building would have a floor space of 405 square metres and measure 22.5m in length and 18m in width.

The building would contain a 50 point rotary parlour for milking the cows and it is estimated the dairy will produce 5,350m² of slurry per year.

The application will go before Conwy’s planning committee  on Wednesday, December 12.

A report to members said: “The odour management plan states that the dairy will have a capacity to support 500 cows and will be used through the grazing season.

“Cows will be moved onto the grazing block in

the park in February, while the peak numbers of cattle being milked will be reached by the end of March.

“Cows will be dried off from the end of October and moved off the park by Mid-November.

“All young stock, bulls and dry cows will be accommodated on further areas of grassland and straw-yard buildings outside Kinmel Park throughout the year, along with the milking herd during the dry period and calving. This means that slurry will be produced between February and October.”

Objections to the plans from the public include concerns about the impact on the water table and what slurry will do to the environment.

But planning officers have recommended it be approved.

The report concluded: “The proposals seek to provide long-term security to the management of the parkland, providing a sustainable future as well as ensuring the protection of the important landscape and heritage assets within.

“The siting of the building is considered to be appropriate as it benefits from natural screening and sits away from the essential setting and views of the

Grade I listed hall.”
