A HISTORIC cottage near Fordingbridge has been badly damaged after it was hit by a lorry early this morning.

The property in Salisbury Road, Breamore, was struck shortly after 6.40am.

The driver of the Brakes lorry, a man in his 50s, was taken to Salisbury District Hospital for treatment.

He suffered minor bruising.

Police officers, firefighters and the paramedics all rushed to the scene.

A Hazardous Area Response Team from the South Central Ambulance Service attended, along with an officer and a crew.

It is reported that the lorry is propping up the Grade II-listed cottage.

A spokesperson from Hampshire police said: "The lorry is still in situ wedged against the house, which has sustained damage.

"No arrests have been made."
