SANDBANKS Ferry is set to be returning to Poole soon after its annual winter refit.

The ferry has been based at Falmouth for the maintenance work, which can take up to six weeks.

The Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company, which owns the ferry, said on Monday: "The ferry is still in Falmouth, the tugs are there and on standby, and as soon as there is a break in the weather we will be bringing her back to Poole.

"Once back, there will be a period of works and testing before we will be back in service."

The ferry was taken out of service on Monday, October 29.

An exact date for when the ferry will resume service has not been confirmed yet.

The ferry office is currently closed for both visitors and phone calls while the refit is carried out.

MoreBus' Purbeck Breezer 50 service has been diverted during the work and is running to a revised timetable.

The main service diverts from Westbourne to Swanage via Poole and Wareham and then continues onto Studland where it terminates. The reverse happens on the return.
