A TREE has come down in high winds along the A35 near Lytchett Matravers earlier this morning.

Dorset Police received reports a vehicle had collided with the tree, which was blocking the road between the Wareham Road turn and Baker's Arms roundabout.

No-one was injured in the incident, which was reported just after 8am.

The road is blocked.

There is a fallen tree in Huntick Road in Lytchett Matravers as well. The road is blocked between Foxhills Road and Post Green Road.

It comes as another severe weather warning for strong winds has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning was extended at 11am this morning to continue until later today.

The yellow alert will be in force between 3am and 5pm on Thursday.

It covers Bournemouth, Poole and the rest of the county.

The Met Office spokesperson said: “A spell of wet and windy weather is expected, with a small chance of very strong and disruptive winds.”

Inland gusts could reach 50mph with gusts of 60 to 65mph in exposed locations.

The spokesperson added: “A very unsettled spell of weather is expected, with strong winds, combined with widespread and in places heavy rain.

“Winds are expected to increase from the far southwest early on Wednesday, spreading northeast, with areas adjacent to the Irish Sea most exposed to the south to southeasterly wind.

“Wind gusts of 60 mph are expected, with a few more exposed locations seeing 70 mph gusts.”

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for East Dorset on Thursday which will remain in force for two hours after high tide at 10.45am. 

The forecast wind direction is West South West and the forecast wind strength is Force 7.

Today, a yellow weather warning is in force until midnight as winds of 60mph to 70mph are predicted.
