THIS month sees award-winning singer and fiddle player, Jackie Oates, bring her haunting ballads to the Bournemouth Folk Club at the Shelley Theatre on Saturday, November 24.

Jackie will appear with her new band of Mike Cosgrave (accordion), Jack Rutter (guitar) and John Parker (double bass).

Support in the first half comes from south coast talent Dom Prag, who was a finalist in the Purbeck Rising Award 2018 at the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival.

Born and raised on folk music, Jackie started her career as a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards in 2003. Since then she has been nominated for twelve BBC Folk awards; at the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards she scooped Best Newcomer and Best Traditional Track on the same night.

She has performed extensively at festivals and venues across the country and beyond, in a solo capacity and with her band. She is a founder member of Northumbrian group and Mercury nominated Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, not to mention a permanent member of the folk super-group The Imagined Village as well as touring in her own right.

Her brother is also the singer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer Jim Moray and they have guested on each other’s albums.

In 2011, Jackie signed to ECC Records an offshoot of the Poole-based cosmetics giant, Lush. The nationwide chain of 700 stores launched a colour supplement, which Jackie heavily featured.
