AROUND 30 firefighters tackled a heath fire near Wareham.

Fire crews were called to the blaze, off Soldiers Road, just before 12.45pm today.

Three hectares of heathland was destroyed in the fire.

Five fire engines and four Land Rover pumps from Swanage, Wimborne, Poole, Hamworthy and Christchurch attended the incident, along with a water carrier.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said the flames spread quickly due to strong winds.

They added the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Crews have remained at the scene to damp down the area after extinguishing the blaze.
