BOSCOMBE kick-started the festive season with its annual Christmas lights switch-on at the weekend.
Crowds packed the precinct on Saturday afternoon to watch a dazzling 20,000 lights come on.
The tree, featuring 30 individually-designed gift boxes inspired by drawings of local children, was switched-on by 'local hero' Cindy Jermon, with Bournemouth Mayor Cllr Derek Borthwick in attendance.
Cindy, aged 83, has been fundraising for the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) since 1990, after the charity saved her cat following an accident.
In the 28 years since, she has raised thousands of pounds for the organisation and is the long-standing chairman of the local PDSA branch.
She has also run the popular Boscombe Christmas Parade for more than two decades.
Cindy said: "It was an honour to be asked to switch on Boscombe's Christmas lights.
"There's always a great atmosphere once the lights are on. It gets everyone in the Christmas mood."
